"On Love and Fear"by * Fahar (a spirit teacher)March 3, 1993 |
* Fahar is the name of one of a number of spirit guides and teachers who regularly speak to groups through Alex, using his body and voice as their instrument. This is an exerpt from a much longer talk which included that which follows. Whosoever has love is wise. Whosoever is wise is loving. Can the two therefore be seperated? It seems not. For would there be a wise person who was not capable of loving? What would be the nature of wisdom that was without love? How would it be wise if it could not understand or express love? What is wisdom without love? Is that possible? On the other hand, what is love without wisdom? Is it possible that one could love unwisely? It is often said that it occurs. I think not. If one truely loves, one is never unwise in that loving. In fact, wise love is never foolish. Wise love is the kind of love that loves appropriately and loves generously and yet not indulgently. Wise love is a love that does not seek to hold or bind. Wise love is a love that frees. So I do not believe it is possible to love unwisely. If one truly loves, one is wise. And love is the best teacher in that respect. If one is afraid, can one love? Can love and fear abide in the same moment together? No, they co-exist. But each who experiences love and fear does so alternately, going between love and fear, living a moment in love and a moment in fear. Sometimes the moment in fear is vastly longer than the moment in love. Unfortunately for most who fear, the moment of fear seems like an eternity; the moment of love, like the blinking of an eye. Yet, they are moments. One cannot measure them in terms of time. They are states of awareness, states of consciousness, pervasive as it were. But when one is in fear, love is nearby. Love is close, but one is disconnected. When one is embraced by love, fear is all around but somehow it does not disturb, it does not take away from the calm, that sense of stability that love always provides. Love is like the light that shines in the darkness. In the center of the light there is no darkness. Whereas in the darkness, there may be the light - as the stars that shine in the vast void of space. And so it is that the light is there, and the light is the presence of energy: radiant, informative, fulfilling. And fear is that which occurs in the vacuum of that which is not filled with light, that which is not therefore able to have a basis in truth or in love. Whensoever you make an action based upon fear, it is an action based upon ignorance. It is basically a projection because fear is based on no thing. Whatever it is that motivates you in the moment of fear, is a projection of something to come. Ask yourself when you say "I am afraid," what it is you are afraid of. Surely nothing that is in front of you. It is always something that is ahead of you, something that is not in the moment that you exist in, but is a projection of what might hapopen, what could happen, but it is never about what is happening. Some say that loss of control, the sense of being out of control, is one of the most fearful states of all. I must tell you that when you come to understand that you never were in control, you are not in control, you never will be in control; you have either to spend the rest of your life in a state of utter fright or to accept it and receive the light, and to receive the power of that Great Force which is in control of all things in Nature and in the Universe, yourselves included. That Force of Higher Mind, the God-Force, the Creator Force that inbues all things with order and Its own greater design, against which Nature does not struggle - except for humans. And humans simply struggle because instead of letting themselves experience what is, they think about what is not. Humans were given the capacity to measure the void, the measure of the part of life that is not there, and therefore, humans have spent more time considering what is not rather than what is. Fear is the consideration of what is not. That is the simplest thing I can tell you. Fear is the contemplation of what is not and what is imagined may be. Love is the acceptance of that which is and the receiving of that, the taking of that within. When I say 'acceptance,' it is also to say that things are as they are, and that they are the way they are made, and they are that way for reasons. To come to accept that those reasons are valid reasons is an essential part of 'acceptance,' even if things are not as you might have preferred them to be. When one comes to understand the reasons of things, one has truly touched Love. One has truly touched God, the Great Force. When one understands the process, when one understands death, change, aging and decline, one also understands the possibility of rebirth, and of new life. If one were to contemplate the seasons and metemorphism, whether it be of a butterfly or of a human's soul as it passes from incarnation to incarnation, one would gain a great peace, a sense of calm and center. Fear not of death. Fear not of anything, for having embraced the wisdom Love has had in the creation of this eternal process, there would be nothing to flee from. Indeed, all troubles of the earth have been caused by the lack of acceptance of what the Creator ordained in the first place as the evolutionary process. Those who come to this acceptance find also within themselves a wisdom greater than that which is normally associated with humankind. They become in short, 'cosmic conscious' beings. But in order to do that, in the moment of fear, in that dark moment, one has to return to the light. One has to go back to any truth they have known before. For that truth will be the avenue to greater Truth. Every one of you in your own lives has touched the Light, has touched Love, has touched Truth. However brief, however infrequently, it matters not: the fact is you have touched it. You would not be alive today if you had not touched it, for you would be a being who had never experienced any life at all, and therefore you would have ceased to exist as a spirit. Your spirit cannot exist without the sustanence of light. Some touch it more than others, some have a greater sense of it, some incorporate it on a daily basis. But it matters not. The fact is you have all been enlightened for moments in your lives. Sometimes those are beautiful moments, moments of great tranquility, moments of bliss, moments of all pervasive acceptance - as if to say that nothing mattered except the moment in which you were, and in that moment all things seemed well, and you seemed united with all that was, is, or ever shall be. In a moment without anxiety - calm, serene and still, many of you have had moments like that and wondered what happened, how you lost it, how come it was so great. Those moments, to be maintained, must be known for what they are. You must know that you are in the moment that is one with Wisdom. You must know that this is Wisdom's nature. Respect it, honor it, value it and always try to recreate it. You are beings on the path of enlightenment. But there are shadows on the path, there are dark corners, dark tunnels. There are moments when you lose track of the light and you are not sure of where you are. That doesn't mean you are not there on the path. These are the moments when you experience fear. It's like a moonless night, a clouded night when you cannot see the stars. Does it mean the stars are not there? Does it mean the moon has gone away? No, you don't see it but the moon is there and the sun is also always there. The light is always there and you are always seeking it. When you are touched by fear again, say "I've lost touch with the light but the light is there. I am still on the path and my inner compass is taking me there even if I don't know where I am because on some level, I do know where I am. No, no. Love is within me, Wisdom is within me, the Light is within me, and I am on the path. I am where I need to be and I have everything I need to have to move forward from this place." If you just relax and become very still, that light will start to open up, the shadow will start to move away and the fear will subside. Calm, the center, will reassert itself. It is there, it is not that it will come, it is there already. |
